I’ve been practicing minimalism for about seven years, and I’ve learned that the antidote to stress, overwhelm, indecision, confusion, anxiety, and feeling stuck is always to start subtracting.

You’ve heard the saying “less is more,” which applies to all life areas.

Some decorators advise that less is more because when we add too much to our homes, they become cluttered. I used to clutter my home because I was attempting to “cozify” it, a term I learned from The Nester.

We clutter our minds and hearts in clumsy efforts to cover up our inadequacies or insecurities. We layer on anger, bitterness, or a tough-guy persona to hide the mess inside.

Obligations, a crowded schedule, people-pleasing, weak boundaries, and guilt are also ways clutter manifests.

Clutter is a form of procrastination. It’s delaying decisions and allowing life to happen to us.
