The country is witnessing first hand why ICE agent across the country cheered as Donald Trump signed two of the most extreme and destructive immigration enforcement executive orders in recent memory earlier this year.

Last Friday, a Facebook video emerged showing Oregon ICE agents arresting Carlos Bolaños, a housepainter, after entering the residence without permission or a warrant. Carlo’s co-worker, George Cardenas, recorded the incident on his cellphone.

As reported by Splinter News:

An aggressive plainclothes officer wearing a green and black jacket, baseball cap, and khaki pants, and who appears unsure at times of his actions, responds, “We don’t need a warrant to come in this home. No one lives here.”

“Honestly, I don’t think you guys should even be in here. You’re basically trespassing at this moment,” Cardenas said, adding, “I opened the door. I never told you to come in…I’m just letting you know that you’re trespassing at this very moment.”

“We’re not going to leave,” the officer responded.

When asked for their names, one officer replied, “I’m a federal officer.” Another said, “We don’t need to introduce ourselves by our names. There’s no law that says we have to.”

Carlos Bolaños has been released from custody as ICE conducts an investigation regarding the events that led up to his apprehension. Meanwhile, Democratic Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Widen have asked Deputy Field Office Director Elizabeth Godfrey to explain the actions of the local ICE agents.

This is incident comes right on the heels of a separate instance where plain-clothed ICE agents failed to identify themselves and accused an Oregon man, Isidro Andrade-Tafolla, of being an undocumented immigrant. As it turned out, Andrade-Tafolla is a U.S. Citizen.

Let this be a reminder to everyone reading this that immigrants have rights and that incidents like these should be recorded and shared widely across social media networks.
