Although toddlers are a whirlwind of activity, sometimes it’s hard to inspire them to keep moving — especially if they’d rather use their tablet or watch TV instead! But it’s important to keep your little ones active, even while they’re still stuck indoors. If you’re feeling like you’re out of ideas, don’t worry! We have some fun and creative ways to get your toddler moving and grooving — and best of all, they can all be done without having to leave the house!

Pop it!

Up, down, under and through — these are just a few examples of the ways we can move our bodies! You can help your toddler to understand these words through play. Popping bubbles is one fun way to try this out! Blow bubbles with your kiddo, and tell them where the bubbles are so they can pop them. For example, you could say, “Oh look! There’s one above your head, reach up for it!” or “There’s one next to your elbow, pop it before it floats away!” This will get your toddler jumping, twisting, and reaching out, and teach them positional language- the language we use to describe where things are!

Imaginary animals!

Play-based activities, like climbing, balancing, running and jumping, promote healthy growth and development, by building your little one’s muscles, improving their coordination and boosting their motor skills!

To get your toddler moving, ask them to act like an animal! You might tell them to gallop like a horse, jump like a frog or waddle like a duck! Jump on your horse and join in to make this activity even more enjoyable for your little one (and you too, of course)! Not only is this a great muscle-developing activity, it’s an awesome bonding opportunity too — it gives you and your toddler plenty to giggle over!

Dance party

Dust off your disco ball and turn up the speakers! Dance parties are a great way to get your toddler on their feet and jumping around, and it’s fun for the whole family! Dancing strengthens different muscles, and helps your little one improve their coordination and learn about spatial awareness. They can also learn a lot by copying your dance moves, so don’t be shy about busting out your best moves ! There are many toddler music videos available online, so why don’t you and your little one try dancing along to these?!
