Once upon a time, I was a blonde. It looked awful on me. I had long hair and didn’t want to spend the money to have it done professionally, so I bought a box of hair dye and did it by myself.

Big mistake. Huge.

It looked patchy and brassy- not words most women want associated with their hair. Prior to that, I’d only colored my hair various shades of red from the time I was 12 years old. My grandmother used to dye her hair red. Her hair was really short, and she didn’t always need the entire bottle just to touch up her grey hair.

I would put the rest of her color in my hair and loved how it would turn out. However, it wasn’t until I was older and living on my own that I started buying my own boxes of hair color. Oftentimes I did it on a whim after seeing the leaves of trees start to change colors in September or October. They made me swoon, as did some of my hair colors.
