If I was a positive person, right now I would be typing:

On Sunday up at Yankee Stadium — after Dutch Reuther had yet another rocky start, giving up three runs in the first, and another in the second — I pitched for the first time in over a week, went seven complete innings, and helped my ball club beat the Boston Red Sox, 15–7.

To top it off, I got the official “win,” to even my record at 1–1.

If I was a realistic fellow, right now I would be typing:

On Sunday at Yankee Stadium, I relieved Dutch in the 3rd. I immediately poured gas on the fire, and gave up two more runs — one on my own throwing error — to put us into a 6–1 hole.

Then I settled myself down… until the 7th when I gave up a double, then followed that with a wild pitch, giving up another run… before finally finishing the 8th and 9th, scoreless and strong.

Thanks to Murderers’ Row and the vagaries of baseball’s official scoring system, my uneven performance (against the worst team in all of baseball!) was rewarded with a “win,” to bring my record to 1–1.

If I was a pessimistic fellow, I would be typing:

Christ, why can’t I just get out of my own way?
