A story about coconut oil and sudden obsession
Have you ever had this kind of day when you wake up with an idea which could be awesome?
How many times in your life have you stopped everything else to pursue it, at least for a day?
This morning, we had some guest visiting us to show us their homemade coconut oil (yes, I’m a huge fan of coconut oil). It was a mixed couple, the guy is American and the girl is Balinese.
During the conversation, the guy told me that one of the two bottles he brought contained some turmeric root inside, hence the yellow color of the coconut oil (turmeric is GREAT for many reasons)
At this moment, and during the rest of the conversation, I became obsessed with the idea of an enhanced coconut oil providing insane health benefits for who would use it.
I already had in mind this idea of creating an online marketplace to ship the greatest coconut oil brands of Bali worldwide (that’s also why we met this couple this morning).
But suddenly, the idea of creating my own mix of coconut oil + whatever has the benefits I want became an obsession.
From idea to action
This kind of flash-and-go idea happens to me probably every single day. It usually lasts for a few hours, before the peak of dopamine vanishes, and I then forget the idea forever.
Not today.
Today, I decided to close this gap between idea and action. I wrote down a few ingredients and tools name, annoyed a few people with my urging questions, and we took the motorbike to go to the center of Ubud in Bali on a mission to find those components.
It happened to be more adventurous than expected to find whatever was needed (e.g. proper essential oils, or 100ml empty bottles), but we did it anyway, and took whatever we could to get started.
The goal was: before the end of the day, I want to have a first prototype of empowered coconut oil that I can use to cook or to drink.
I won’t detail the entire making process here for this mixed oil with 3 added component, but I’d rather share a thought about this “Idea to Action” gap I killed today.

Killing the gap
Everyone has ideas.
Sometimes great ones, sometimes stupid ones.
But it doesn’t really matter.
Today, I realized that the one who will make huge improvements isn’t the one with the good idea. It’s the one who will test the idea ASAP.
There is only one way to create something successful,
only one way to kill the gap between ideas and actions,
#1 — Stop thinking
#2 — Do something
— right now.
P.S: the first try with the “super oil” is not so bad, but the taste might be too strong for normal people. I will try to cook with it tomorrow and see how does the food taste.
