To begin with a short summary of what the abstract might be thought of. Abstract art is based on ideas with a focus on shapes, colours and textures. An idea or quality is evoked, rather than a concept.

The flippant and comic line above suggests there is more to art than that mere placing of a line on paper. After all, going for a walk is something that writers draw on as a way to turn inward to their writing. The first lines of Jane Eyre, that mysterious gothic novel begins,
