The Digital Corps had a very successful summer with 20 projects produced by 30 student employees and six staff members. We have worked everywhere from inside Ball State University and beyond… and had a great time doing it!

A large project taking place outside of the university is Launch Indiana, an entrepreneurial initiative throughout the state of Indiana. The Digital Corps brought on Ball State education majors to work as Digital Media Producers. Along with the Video Team, our Digital Media Producers have traveled to all ends of the state to gather stories about Indiana’s very own entrepreneurs. The project aims to spread awareness about entrepreneurs in Indiana communities and encourage young people to pursue creative fields.

Within the university, the Corps worked with the office of Marketing and Communications, Speech Pathology professor Dr. Barry Wagoner, Fashion Merchandising professor Dr. Amy Harden, the office of Working Well, the University Honors College, the BSU Career Center and many more.

Out of our 20 projects, our two biggest projects of Summer 2017 included working with the University Honors College and the Career Center. The Corps created an interactive site for Honors College Freshman loaded with instructional videos to assist students in planning their academic path. On the site, students learn how to use the tools provided by the university to guarantee their academic success. The Corps also created a multipurpose site for the Career Center to help students and administrators with internship and career planning. While the Video Team produced videos highlighting the Intern and Career Ready programs, our Design, Development, Communication and User Experience Teams worked on the website where students can track their academic readiness and attend skill-based workshops.

Projects have also been blooming right inside our office (come visit us in the Ball Communication building, room 210!). As the creators of the Ball State University Map App, the Digital Corps worked on maintaining the app and updating information throughout the university’s entire campus. Some new features include bathroom locations in all buildings, dining hall locations and hours, and updated parking lot locations. Can’t find your BSU nest? Download the Map App today!

Over the summer we also revised training for new student employees making the semester-long process more intuitive between disciplines and the higher ranked team members. Accessibility training was also added for new and old employees alike to create, design, develop and write content to accommodate for disabilities and usability.

Some projects came to a close, but others will continue in the fall semester. The Corps will continue to work closely with the office of Marketing and Communications to design both the Miller College of Business and College of Communication and Information Media pages on the new Ball State website. Now that the primary page designs are complete, the Corps will upload all of the department’s content to the BSU webpages throughout the fall semester.

The Corps will continue their hard work on existing projects this fall, but we are excited for everything new to come! Students will be busy taking on new clients and are looking forward to welcoming new Apprentices in the office. With more students comes more faces, more talent, and even more projects. We are excited to see our office grow and can’t wait to introduce our new students to the creative world. Stay tuned for more updates about the Digital Corps projects and the students working on them!
