5 Reasons Why You Should Claim Your Loved One’s Find-A-Grave
Family legacy is important
When I first stumbled upon gravesite finder and genealogy helper site, Find A Grave, I was surprised by what a great resource it was. The site makes it easy to find and locate where your ancestors are buried, and sometimes if you are lucky, their obituary is even included on their page. As I scrolled through it, I noticed that each grave was controlled by a Find-A-Grave community member. Sometimes they were people that had taken photos of their headstones at local cemeteries, or local historical society members, and in some cases, even a family member of the deceased.
As it turns out, if you have a relative on Find-A-Grave, you can claim ownership of their grave site. It’s as easy as messaging the current page holder and asking them for ownership. Make sure you provide them with your connection to the person.
Here is my grandmother’s Find-A-Grave. You can see I’m listed as the maintenance person. Before taking ownership, the two people that created the page “owned” it. They were nice enough to give it to me to maintain. This information can be found at the bottom of each profile. If you have any issues with getting ownership, just contact Find-A-Grave directly.
