What is your idea of a Perfect November evening?

A wonderful writer, Purbita Chakraborty, inspired me last week. I stumbled across her piece about November and was blown away. It was beautiful and captivating.

I couldn’t help but think about all the things November means to me, and she challenged me to write about it.

So, I decided to take this up. This piece is an invitation to see November through my eyes. I hope you enjoy it.

It makes everything shine brighter, doesn’t it? A little bounce to your step and that special feeling when you know it is your birth month!

I didn’t get a lot of birthday celebrations, but it was a special day to share with my family.

Clear Beautiful Blue Skies

November usually marks the end of the wet and beginning of the dry season in my country. We get just 2 seasons — wet and dry seasons.

November is like a sweet spot between seasons — bright clear, and blue skies. But, of course, clear skies came with sunny and hot afternoons. Thinking of it now, we get bright sun at all times of the year except that it didn’t come with rain in November.

But it is always so beautiful. I’ve attached few picturesque I’ve taken over the years to show you how beautiful it gets.

I felt nostalgia the other day; I looked at the clear skies and was transported back to my secondary school days (secondary school is High school in Nigeria).

The smile on our faces when we start smelling “Christmas in the air.” In reality, it was just the chill that marks the beginning of the harmattan season.

Thinking about all these memories brings back mixed feelings — joy, longlines, and nostalgia.

Amazing Sunsets and Sunrise

As a younger child, I was fascinated with geography and the climate. As a result, I love looking at the skies, especially in the evenings.

Fascinating Night Skies

Just beautiful, if you look hard enough, you could see the moon following you everywhere you go! I wanted to be an Astronomer at a point; I was obsessed! In fact, I kept records of the moon seasons and the star constellation.

I’m currently sitting on my favorite chair in a corner of my room (2 stories up) with two angles of the skyline from my windows. I’m sipping Coca-cola and brainstorming on a client’s work.

A dog is barking somewhere in the background, and from another place, a child is shouting. In yet another house, I can hear someone pounding yam (pounded yam is a local dish in Nigeria, typical to the Yoruba tribe) with the aroma of a local soup everywhere.

This is my current idea of a perfect Saturday evening.

Thinking of it now, my ideal Saturday evening at all stages of my life has always been close. Clear skies, sunsets, and stars with background noise indicating people going about their evening life.

When I was much younger, I liked to stay outside and bask in it with no worries in the world. I’d go places and be people only I can see in my head — I could be a princess, a queen, or the president of the world.

After a while, my perfect evenings changed to curling up with a nice book somewhere in our compound and reading my heart away.

It doesn’t matter what I’m doing; that clear evening sky that gradually turns into an amazing sunset with the evening chill and background noise will always be my idea of a perfect November evening!

What is your idea of a Perfect November evening?

Passenger’s 27 sums up what I feel right now. So, I leave you with my favorite part of the lyrics.

Ever dying old hopes

Ever growing new fears

Don’t know where I’m going, but I know how I got here.

I don’t know where I’m running, but I know how to run

’Cause running’s the thing I’ve always done, oh

Oh, I don’t know what I’m doing, but I know what I’ve done

I’m a hungry heart, I’m a loaded gun, oh

Said I don’t know where I’m running, but I know how to run

’Cause running’s the thing I’ve always done, oh

Oh, I don’t know what I’m doing, but I know what I’ve done

I’m a hungry heart, I’m a loaded gun, oh
