I LOVE SUMMER! I was a ‘camp kid’, I’m sure if you weren’t a camp person you know at least one (we are pretty vocal about our love and devotion #camp4life). Now that I’m an adult a couple things have happened to me. First, I realized that my camp was actually pretty misogynistic in many of its practices and second, I got too old to be a camp counselor without people thinking there was something wrong with me. These feminist vacations are perfect for adults looking to do something adventurous and special with their time off from work.

  1. FEMINIST CAMP

No big deal…but this looks like the coolest thing ever. I’m just gonna post the sample schedule for their reproductive justice camp this winter:

-10:00 AM Reproductive Justice Breakout Sessions
-1:00 PM Papaya Workshop with Reproductive Health Access Project
-3:00 PM Conversation with Symone New from The Doula Project
-4:45 PM Conversation with Emily Letts from notalone.us
-7:30 PM Agunda Okeyo, Sisters of Comedy

THEY HAVE DOULA CONVERSATIONS!!!! What more could you possibly ask for? I can’t think of anything. This is a place for people to transform feminist theory into actual action, check out more info about their programs, and tickets on their website.

2) AdventureWomen, Inc.

Founded in 1982, this organization was founded by Susan Eckert after spending three years in the Peace Corps. I personally love the idea of an all women adventure vacation. Imagine being able to rock climb, hike, white water raft, (or for that matter exist in any space at all) with the freedom to not have to worry about social expectation. I’m relaxed and empowered just thinking about it!

There are actually many programs like Adventure women. Check out their website, or if you are looking for a tour with younger women, try looking at this list of other similar programs.

3) Go! Girl Guides

“Go! Girl Guides” is a series of tour books, pamphlets, blogs, and information in general made specifically for women who are traveling abroad: where to find specific health care, how to deal with cat calls, what neighborhoods in particular to avoid at night. Imagine being in a different country where you don’t speak the language and losing your birth control subscription- THIS is the website that will help you get it back safely, quickly, and for as cheap as possible.

The guidebooks are written by women who have traveled the world FOR women who want to travel the world. Adventure does not have to mean sacrificing safety, money, or health, and Go! Girls allows women to have it all! Props to creator Kelly Lewis for starting this project in 2011.
