Welcome to Discord, a lovely place for gamers. Your friends probably have invited you here after they were sick of Skype and their intrusive adverts, or TeamSpeak was too costly for them.

In this tutorial, you’ll be learning how to create a Discord server for yourself and your friends.

Make sure you are logged into Discord if you aren’t already. Click the + icon in the circle on the left hand side of your screen. The button should look like this.

Now you’ll be greeted with the following options: joining a server or creating one. In this tutorial, we’ll be learning how to create one, so click the Create A Server button.

Once you click that button, you’ll be greeted with the following.

For your server name, come up with a nice name for it. Make it simple, so it’s easy for others to remember. For instance, take Advertise Your Server. A nice, simple name I came up with back in the summer of 2017.

Great! You’ve got a server name, now you’ll need to select a server region. Usually, you should select the one that’s closest to you, so voice chatting on the server sounds smooth and crisp. Otherwise, just select us-central.

Upload a server icon if you want to. It’s optional, but if you don’t select a server icon, your server’s circle will be displayed with the initials of your server name.

Congratulations! You now created your very own server.
