A Guinea Pig Wheel of the Year

Arranging seasonal photos with a furry friend

Last November, we lost our beloved guinea pig, Mocha.

Mocha was a rescue, already a few years old when we adopted her, and she lived with us for three years beyond that. We think she was about five or six when she passed — a good long life for a guinea pig. We had many exciting and tender moments together.

In 2021, our kitchen wall calendar featured monthly guinea pig photos. They were adorable and inspirational. And so, in Mocha’s final year, we were moved to create commemorative seasonal photos.

I’m Irish, so we began on St. Patrick’s Day (or St. Pigtrick’s Day as it shall henceforth be known). Incidentally, green is also my favorite color.

That year, I was working through the gwersi of the Bardic Grade of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids (as I said, I’m Irish). Thus it seemed appropriate that Mocha should also observe Alban Eiler (Beltane) on May 1st. I crafted her a tiny maypole with a skewer and some ribbon (it was good until she started to eat the ribbon).
