Creating Doesn’t Always Feel Creative; It Often Isn’t Inspiring, Either

Things aren’t what they seem

I recently read a quote by Mary Kate Teske:

No one ever tells you that bravery feels like fear.

It’s true, isn’t it? Things aren’t always what they seem, not even most of the time.

If you’ve read my stories, you may know that I haven’t considered myself a creator or artist for most of my adult life. I don’t feel artistic, I don’t notice myself creating.

Not amongst my friends who knit and sew, felt foxes and acorns, paint portraits for an income, mix their own salves and face creams, practice Reiki, cut hair, design tattoos, and operate their own pottery studios.

As bravery feels more like fear, for me, the path toward inspiration often feels hopeless. And creating sure feels a lot like a hot mess of disorganization, attempting to match thoughts, opinions, and conclusions with arbitrary words.

And with that, I go about my life, constantly on the lookout for a story.

Today, that looks like a walk with my dog, Rue. We meander through the woods near our house, feeling bored with dead feelings induced by November, expecting little other than a walk, the means to an end.
