Looking for a recipe

I’ve been researching paint recipes since buying homemade watercolor paint on Etsy a few years ago. I still have some of that paint and love it.

My curiosity is always piqued when I realize that I might be able to make something instead of buying it. It may not always work out, but I have fun trying.

This recipe is based on a mix of a few different ones I’ve tried over time, and some additions of my own — like the clove oil and water.

I also changed some of the quantities. I add quite a bit more corn syrup than most of the recipes I found. I just think it bonds everything better with a higher concentration. I was worried that too much corn syrup would make the paint sticky, but it doesn’t. The paint dries completely on the paper.

The title image of this article shows two examples where I used the DIY watercolor paint recipe below.

At the end of the day, this is not a recipe set in stone. Your variations could call for more or less of any of the listed ingredients. Play around with it. See what works.
