Borax is a staple in our laundry room. It’s been the best way to remove musty odors from towels or sweaty clothes. It’s a sanitizer and deodorizer.

What is Borax?

· It’s also known as sodium borate decahydrate or sodium tetraborate. A salt crystal compound typically and naturally found as residue on dry riverbeds.

A Short History of Borax

· It was first discovered in Persia around 4000 years ago.

· It was a rare and expensive commodity until it was discovered in California’s Death Valley soon after the 1800’s gold rush.

· Mongolians used it to make stain resistant porcelain glazes.

· Marco Polo took some back to Italy from Mongolia.

Where Can I Buy It?

Most grocery stores will sell it in their laundry aisle.

I saw big 2.5 pound bags at our local hardware store. Some bags were scented with lavender or lemon. That was new to me.
