I read today that China has more cameras monitoring its people than any other country. It came about as a result of the Covid crisis when the whole country was locked down and cameras were installed outside many people’s homes. As if that isn’t enough they now want keep an eye on the US, Canada and countries in South America.

You probably know by now that China has officially apologised for one of its balloons intruding on US airspace. Accidentally, over sensitive nuclear sites in Montana. Folks in the street in Billings have been filming the balloon.

The event has resulted in a diplomatic row. The US Secretary of State cancelled a visit to Beijing citing ‘violation of our sovereignty’ at a time when diplomatic relations between the countries are arguably at an all time low. It’s clearly a major embarrassment for China. They don’t like to apologise — it’s loss of face, a serious matter in Chinese culture.
