Own The Doge, the community that collectively owns the one and only Doge meme NFT through $DOG is back with its quarterly recap for 2023 Q2. We’ll be sharing all the exciting moments that have been happening in the DOG world over the past 3 months.
The Doge Pilgrimage
DREAM becomes MEME. The quarter begins with an iconic trip to Japan to meet the actual Doge and her momma. 27 people from all around the world gathered for the love of Doge and did the unimaginable. Check out our recap video in this tweet-
Here are some major highlights of the trip-
- Our Largest Giveaway
A raffle was conducted to sponsor an all-inclusive trip for a community member with us to Japan. This $6900 raffle was won by Coindogg. This is an example of how we at Own The Doge try to keep the community at the forefront of all our pawsome initiatives!
2. Meeting with Foundry
The OTD crew met with representatives of the Takenaka Foundry to get the wheels rolling for the Bronze The Doge initiative. Discussions and deliberations were made after which a deal was agreed upon.
The design is locked, money is transferred and we expect the statue to be erected on November 2, 2024, in the Sakura City Park near Tokyo, Kabosu’s 18th borkday!
3. Meeting with Sakura City Mayor
Tridog, the leader of our pack met with the Mayor of Sakura City along with Atsuko and Kabosu. They sought permission to erect the Bronze Doge statue and the Mayor was pretty excited about our endeavours!
4. Doge Day
A bus leaves for Sakura City to mark the day everyone had dreamed about. In this 2 hour journey, everybody shared what Doge means to them and how it has impacted their lives. With this outburst of emotions, the moment of us finally reaching Sakura City park was captured in the Woof Weekly call.
Atsuko was waiting, along with a lot of her friends……..and there she was, Kabosu….
The overwhelming welcome, tens of Shiba Inus along with their owners, all astounded to see a group of tourists actually taking a trip from various parts of the world, just to see their beloved Kabosu.
5. Photoshoot and Lunch
All pilgrims got a chance to hold and pet Kabosu. We had a translator with us who helped communicate with Atsuko and her friends. After hundreds of photos, we headed over to a restaurant of Atsuko’s choice to have lunch together.
Along with great conversations and great food, there was a great gift. Atsuko gave each one of the Pilgrims a gift packet containing images of Kabosu, Kabosu’s pins and the best of them all, 1/1 Kabosu Paw Prints!! Many of us got our favourite items autographed by Atsuko making them relics to hold onto forever.
6. Live Streams
Living through it all, we wanted the community to also get the maximum out of this Pilgrimage. We had a list of live streams that took place on our Discord server.
7. Press Coverage
The Pilgrimage was a great success. We received a lot of press attention which was completely organic. For the first time in Japan, people witnessed the fame of Kabosu as Doge. BUT this was not all, a big piece was still left involving Reddit’s favourite, BAD LUCK BRIAN!
8. Doge x Bad Luck Brian
Two iconic memes came together, 10 years after their peak fame and the internet loves it! The image received millions of views on Instagram, Reddit, Tiktok and Twitter. People loved the trip down memory lane making the image Reddit’s top post for the month.
This image was open to mint as an NFT for 3 days as an Open Edition on Zora. Top 100 Pixel Holders got 4 free mints, Pixel Holders 3 free mints, $DOG Holders 1 free mint and First Doge Holders a 50% discount on their first mint. For the rest, 1 mint was priced at 0.0069 ETH.
1,953 NFTs were minted making the collab a huge success. A part of the proceeds went to fund The Doge Pound NFT’s initiative to build the largest dog shelter in Africa.
9. The Doge Documentary
We’re working on a Doge Documentary, capturing the lore of the most famous meme ever. Some of the documentary crew joined us in Japan to record the iconic meetup with Doge and interview Doge enthusiasts. Great progress was made which took a step closer to the finish line.

10. Mention in Atsuko’s Blogs
Atsuko was as moved by the pilgrimage as us and the proof lies in her blog posts which she updates every once in a while. 2 Blog posts were solely based on the Pilgrimage while a third one talked about the Doge Documentary.
This relationship with Atsuko has been a major achievement for this quarter and it only seems to deepen with time. Atsuko also went to meet the Bronze Foundry post the Pilgrimage to approve some designs. Much wow!

- Joined Taho Community Call
Our team joined Taho’s community call and spread the word about $DOG to thousands of listeners. The 1-hour call was a perfect rundown of what our project is, what have we done in the past and what we plan to do in the future!
2. We Procured the Rarest Substance on Earth
Own The Doge now owns a piece of the Moon! As a part of a Nouns Prop House Proposal, community member Rybo won a grant of 0.2 ETH to help us procure a piece of the moon. The moon has now come to the Doge and we are looking for ideas on how to make the best out of it.

4. Game Nights on Discord
It’s been a while since we had some activities on Discord and this quarter, we have tried to ace it. We organised 2 game nights with community members joining in to play easy-to-learn games and have some Thursday dogely fun.
5. Twitter Spaces with Neko Alliance
We had a spaces call with neko alliance, a Japan-based NFT community which had over 700 listeners who were excited to learn about the project and the awesome things we did in Japan.
