The Upper Room Discourse
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13, ESV)
In what has been termed, “His Upper Room Discourse.” The Lord and God of these disciples, told them many things they did not yet understand. He sensed the confusion. Jesus looked around the room and felt their anxiety. These were Jesus’ closest friends, yes, even Judas. Jesus loved them more than they knew. He wanted to ease their suffering. Their confusion.
To ease their pain. Jesus informed His disciples of the coming of God, the Holy Spirit. Jesus searched the heart of each and said,
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever…
