One of the motivation killers in my life is the question, “what’s the use?” With a few exceptions, we have all made efforts to make a difference only to find we are getting nowhere fast.

As Christians, we are not the only ones fighting an uphill battle. I read about how in 2007 the National Institute of Health ran an initiative called, “Stop Obesity Alliance.” They eventually quit because their campaign was failing as obesity rates continued to rise. A recent visit to a department store stationed obese mannequins to model their clothes. So much for the “Stop Obesity” campaign.

This year I was hit hard when a friend simply walked away from our relationship. After spending so much time together I was convinced his past was behind him and his future was bright, but his past struggles returned and he basically disappeared. We live in a fallen world and these things happen all the time. How can we stay motivated?

1. Motivation starts at the cross

Obviously God sees something in us that would caused Him to come to earth in spite of all or our failings, and become one of us. And what did we do? We crucified Him.
