Introduction

A fair bit of time has been spent on looking at “love” in the Bible. For the sake of completion, there are a few more stray related topics to be covered but the series is near the end of it’s tether.

Because the luv-word has been bandied about a lot over pride month it seems a useful exercise to do a quick test to see how well you can decipher which Greek word is translated as the ubiquitous, hackneyed “love.”

The late American Bible Teacher, Chuck Missler, discouraged using the word, “salvation,” because it has three tenses:-

I am saved — justification.
I am being saved — sanctification.
I will be saved — glorification.

Using the correct word helped clear up the confusion about the answer to the question, “Can Christians lose their Salvation.”

I am trying to develop the reflex of hearing the unspoken correct word when I read the sloppy agoppy, “love.” Perhaps you are also interested — perhaps not.

How this test works

There are 33 verses listed below. Each one contains the word, “love.”

You must decide if the Greek is agapē, agapaō, or phileō in each case.

After you have decided, invoke the link and you will be connected to the answer in Blue Letter Bible.

I hope you don’t cheat.

I hope I got them right. There have been a number of test runs but you know how it goes for mere mortals. Please let me know if you find an error.

You may be in for some surprises.
