Holy Hormones Bible Study: Teaching — If your book isn’t a buzz, it’s not the Bible.

THE YOUNG SHALL SEE VISIONS. THE OLD SHALL DREAM DREAMS.

I’m one of the Dream Team.

I had a dream.

It involved three plastic water bottles. Two were filled to different levels with oil and the third had none. They were all sealed tight.

They had heavy weights tied to them before being dropped into the deepest part of the ocean.

When they had reached the bottom, they were retrieved, and they looked something like this.

The intact one was fully filled with the oil, and so on down to the totally crushed one which had been completely empty.

The trigger for the dream

It is written in Romans 12:2 || And do not be conformed (G4964 — syschēmatizō) to this world, but be transformed (G3339 — metamorphoō) by the renewing (G342 — anakainōsis) of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

G4964 — syschēmatizō = synchronised: passive verb. You allow the world (the forces hostile to the Will of God) to bring you into step with them.

G3339 — metamorphoō = metamorphosed: passive verb. The Holy Spirit changes you from an ugly caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly.

G342 — anakainōsis = complete change for the better. The analogy is that you are not a rusty old banger that has been given a paint job to cover the rust. That has been sent to the scrap yard. You are being completely re-built, from the ground up, as a brand new Rolls Royce straight out of the factory. You have the latest GPS. The Indwelling Holy Spirit.

Interpretation

The interpretation of the dream is founded on the indwelling Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 3:16 (Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?) and the analogy of the Oil of the Holy Spirit, which is well established.

There is a pressure differential acting on the contact (analogously, the weak plastic skin of the bottle) between our psyche and the outside world, which is under the control of the Prince of the Air. The stresses acting on us these days are impossible to resist in our own strength — regardless of the number of “Don’t tread on me” flags we have.

But, Praise the Lord, God knows a bit about hydraulics. Saints have the option to call to be filled with the Holy Spirit — actually commanded to do so. If we do, the pressure of the oil inside the weak plastic film, equalises with that on the outside without any distortion if the bottle is full (perhaps some compression of the actual film which makes it stronger). It therefore makes it to the bottom with no damage. If the bottle is not full there will be distortion before the oil begins to react. So the bottle is damaged more than necessary. Where there is no oil, the distortion begins early in the journey down and it will be crushed at a depth of about 10m, give-or-take.

[Before the physics purists burst a kafoofle valve, I’m applying the principle of an-ounce-of-inaccuracy-saves-a-ton-of-explanation. I’m sure you realise that when you misunderstood what you thought I said, it wasn’t what I meant in the first place.]

So it should be a no-brainer that, when asked if there is an advantage to being host to the indwelling Holy Spirit (and there is only one way to do that), it should be regarded as a trick question. But you have to keep topped up and effectively sealed.

How is being a NT Saint better than being an OT Saint?

Those in Christ have been given the blessing of the indwelling Holy Spirit, whereas the OT Saints only had the Holy Spirit come upon them for specific occasions.

So NT Saints have a type of double insulation against outside pressure.

We are IN CHRIST and simultaneously have THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST IN US.

In my part of town this is not taught. We get this.

The associated story is well-meaning, and I’m sure you know it, but according to what Apostle Paul tells us, it is non-Biblical because it is Old Testament technology.

There should only be one set of prints. When there are two sets it is the NT Saint trying to escape the Spirit of the Living God.

To those who scoff at this Christian line of thinking, might I remind them of the immortal words of Friedrich Nietzsche, “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.

Let’s hope you don’t hear it too late. Just a thought.
