This Is How To Tell If Your Love For God Is Real or Fake — 1 John 2:4–5

“Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him.” — 1 John 2:4–5 (NIV)

These two verses are like a spiritual love test. They remind us that talking the talk without walking the walk just doesn’t cut it when it comes to our relationship with God.

It’s like claiming you’re a die-hard fan of F1 racing, but you don’t know any of the teams or drivers, you never go to one of the races or watch it on TV, and you have no clue what colors the fans of Max Verstappen are wearing at the races. This doesn’t sound right, does it? In the same manner you say God is important in your life, but you ignore what He says in His Word (the Bible)—or don’t really know what’s written in His Word. Like being a fan with no clue about the teams.

Imagine that you’re part of a close-knit family. You all have house rules to help keep everything running smoothly. If you’re telling everyone that you love your family, but you’re constantly breaking the rules, causing chaos, and disrespecting the household. How can anyone believe that your love is legit?
