It seems that may just be the case. Jesus said Jonah’s experience was a sign.
But Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah. (Mathew 12:39) A sign in the New Testament is a supernatural work of God; healing the sick, casting out demons, cleansing lepers, raising the dead.
