Why Should I Care if No Else Does?

Why should I give 100% when others barely give 50%?

Ever feel discouraged because you are always trying to do your best when it seems everyone around you couldn’t care less?

At work, there’s always the one who comes in ten minutes late, leaves ten minutes early, and spends most of the day on their cell phone.

At church or Little League, there’s always the one who signs up to volunteer and then never comes.

It gets frustrating, and soon, you begin to wonder:

  • Why should I care so much if no one else does?
  • Why should I give 100% when others barely give 50%?
  • Why should I keep showing up when no one else makes it a priority?

I’ll give you three reasons why we should do the right thing even when no one else does:

We follow Christ’s example.

He loved those who could do nothing for Him.

Jesus died for people who hated Him.

He did the right thing even when it was hard and painful.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

We are witnesses for God.

People pay attention to what we do and how we live day to day.

Our character should reflect God’s values and attributes.

We are to be different than the world.

We answer to God, not others.

Even Christians will stand before God at the Bema Seat Judgement (see 2 Corinthians 5:10).

Our integrity is built on doing the right thing whether people see it or not.

When we stand before God, we want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”
Romans 14:12 (NKJV)

Don’t lose heart!

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)

Serving the Lord to the best of our ability is a privilege.

It will get hard, and sometimes, we’ll feel like giving up.

Keep going! Be encouraged! God promises our reward will be great! (see 1 Corinthians 2:9–10)
