The Scottish Esports League Series 4 is currently ongoing and the finals will be hosted in Dundee next month at the Dundee Contemporary Arts. The event will see hundreds come to the city.

Dundee Culture will be assisting Esports Scotland to help promote the event as much as possible through its social media platforms and helping to create content for the event.

Andrew Batchelor, founder of Dundee Culture said:

“I am delighted that an agreement has been reached to help Esports Scotland with social media throughout the event and hopefully events further afield. Esports is fast becoming the next big industry for Dundee and for Dundee Culture to get involved in this booming industry, it brings together various new opportunities for not just Dundee Culture but for Dundee too.”

“To be bringing Dundee Culture into the world of esports, it is very exciting and something I’d never thought would happen. I can’t wait to help Esports Scotland in anyway I can to boost the event in November and more events down the line.”

What is Esports?

Esports is a growing phenonium around the world and it brings together players from across the world in person and online to compete in video game competitions.

With Dundee being Europe’s video gaming capital, the city has a history of video game design with the city being the birthplace of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings from DMA Design, there is no surprise that the city is growing to the next level with esports becoming the next industry that Dundee is heading towards.

Dundee is set to become home to a 4,000 capacity esports arena which is due to be built by 2024, after an agreement was reached between Northern Lights Arena Europe and Dundee City Council to have a look at options for an arena to be built on sites 18 and 19 at Dundee’s waterfront, opposite the V&A.

The organisers of the proposed arena are hoping to make Dundee the streaming capital of the world by partnering with Amazon who own Twitch which is the world’s largest streaming platform.

What is the Scottish Esports League?

The Scottish Esports League is a competition which is run by Esports Scotland. It is the largest esports competition in the country and Dundee is set to become the host city of the finals in November.

This event which comes to the Dundee Contemporary Arts will be the fourth edition of the Scottish Esports League. It will feature players from all of Scotland competing in five video games in a bid to win a £10,000 game prize.

The Scottish Esports League has been growing since its first event where its final was held in Edinburgh three years ago.
