Storm Babet is set to bring major disruption to Dundee and the rest of the North East of Scotland throughout Thursday up until Saturday.

The storm is expected to see very high winds and heavy rain batter down.

Warnings

🟠🔴 Amber and Red Warnings for Rain

Period: Thursday 6am — Friday 10pm

An amber and red warning for rain was issued by the Met Office on Wednesday for heavy rain that is set to affect the North East.

Up to 150–200mm of rain is being forecast by the Met Office throughout Thursday to Saturday.

The Amber rain warning comes into force from Thursday at 6am until Friday 6pm whilst the Red rain warning comes into force from Thursday at 6pm until Friday at 12pm.

🟠 Amber Warning for Wind

Period: Thursday 10am — 6pm

An amber warning for wind was issued by the Met Office on Wednesday which would see strong winds hit the north east.

This warning is active from Thursday 10am until 6pm.

  • Flooding has been reported in and around Dundee as Storm Babet batters through the Eastern parts of Scotland
  • Trees have fallen on Baxter Park Terrace

What To Expect

  • Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
  • There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
  • Some roads and bridges likely to close
  • Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Flying debris is possible and could lead to injuries or danger to life
  • Danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater
  • Extensive flooding to homes and businesses
  • Collapsed or damaged buildings or structures
  • Road closures and bus and train service delays and cancellations
  • Dangerous driving conditions because of spray and flooded roads
  • Loss of power and other essential services, such as gas, water and mobile phone service
  • Communities completely cut off, perhaps for several days

Transport Information

  • Tay Road Bridge is currently closed to double decker buses, motorcycles and single sided vehicles
  • No trains will be running through Dundee throughout Thursday or Friday

What Should I Do?

As it is a red warning, it is advised that you do not travel unless extremely necessary.

Staying at home is the best option as you ride through the storm. The worst should pass by Saturday.

If you are needing to travel for an essential purpose, plan your journey and be careful on the roads.
