In the old days, it seemed as if there were more elderly people around town, in the neighborhood, and in the family. Many of them have passed away that were respected and well known. They told you how you could live a long time. They would often tell you to obey your parents, to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and not to steal and kill. The elderly that lived when I was a little girl were born long ago like in 1903. They lived to get close to a hundred years of age.

Today, I meet young grandmas and grandpas. They seem the same as young people, and they do not like to be called Miss or Mr. In the old days, you got your teeth knocked out if you did not say Miss or Mr. You had to respect your elders, and you had to go out side and play while grown folks were talking. You were not aloud to speak if you were a child and get into an adult’s conversation.

The elderly can tell you great stories, and they can tell you how to live. They can give you wise advice. In the old days, an old man or woman could speak things that would come to pass. They knew how to pray, and their prayers got answered. If you were sick, and if they prayed for you, sometimes the sickness went away quickly. It seems as if faith and prayer is not as strong today. It seems as if nobody wants the truth today. It’s good to listen to the wise elderly. If they want to tell you something truthfully, take in all that you can take and listen.
