Treating An Injured Motorcyclist Amid A Field Transfer
On Sunday night at around 11:00 p.m., a 35-year-old motorcyclist was racing along the dimly lit streets in the northern town of Jadeidi-Makr. All of a sudden, he lost control of the vehicle, crashed, and flew off of it, sustaining a broken nose and abrasions and contusions all over his body. A local town ambulance arrived quickly at the scene and the EMTs transferred him onto a backboard and brought him into the ambulance.
United Hatzalah volunteer paramedic Ibrahem Derby works for ambulance Hain, a private ambulance company located in the nearby town of Kfar Yasif. Ibrahem and his team set out in the private ambulance as soon as he received the emergency alert. They got in touch with the EMTs at the scene and met them at the entrance to the town of Jadeidi-Makr where they transferred the injured victim into the Hain ambulance and provided advanced life-support treatment en route to the hospital.
Ibrahem started treating the injured man immediately as the driver headed straight for the nearest hospital. The patient was in a stable condition and mainly required superficial treatment. The paramedic explained, “His nose and other small bones on his face were broken and smaller cuts throughout his body. We focused our efforts on the more serious problems like the severe cuts on his arms and legs and upper body and bandaged them. We provided him with oxygen and fluids and administered pain medication.”
Ibrahem said after the incident, “Even though I wasn’t in a United Hatzalah ambulance or with other United Hatzalah volunteers treating the patient in the ambulance, at the end of the day, I always represent United Hatzalah. They provide me with constant support and always preach kindness to others. The EMTs are always at the scene of the emergency to treat the victims. I have no words.”
