For a lot of business professionals, summertime means one very important thing — Summer Fridays! For three months of sweet bliss, worker bees are free to take a half day or a full day off work every Friday from June through August. Doesn’t that sound like the most refreshing treat?

We salute the companies that uphold Summer Fridays! It got us thinking at Copper HQ about great reads to take along on those Friday adventures. So we pulled some trending books from some of the most popular celebrity book clubs. Yes, Oprah is on the list! Pick up a copy of one of the following books and let it be your new companion every Friday.

1. “Tokyo Ever After” by Emiko Jean

Recommended by Reese’s Book Club, “Tokyo Ever After” is the type of book that will have you eagerly turning the page to find out what happens next. What would you do if you found out that the father you never knew is the Crown Prince of Japan? Izumi Tanaka, or Izzy for short, must navigate these choppy waters and leave behind the life she has always known with her mother in a small, predominately white, northern California town. The story harmoniously blends themes of love, life in the public eye, a coming-of-age journey, and Izzy’s search for a sense of cultural identity and belonging.

2. “Malibu Rising” by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A great read according to Read With Jenna, Jenna Bush’s online book club, “Malibu Rising” reads like a reality TV show plot or a young adult TV drama. The book tells the story of the famous Riva siblings, who are the children of legendary singer Mick Riva and their annual end-of-the-summer party. The night will end with the house going up in flames, but before that, as the good times roll, secrets that have spanned generations will come brimming to the surface.

3. “Somebody’s Daughter” by Ashley C. Ford

If there were ever a place to go for a book recommendation, it would be Oprah’s Book Club. Check out one of the famous book club’s summer 2021 recommendations, “Somebody’s Daughter.” Author Ashley C. Ford shares a powerful memoir about growing up as a poor Black girl in Indiana and the impact that incarceration had on her entire family. As she dives into the loneliness of her childhood and the fragmentation of her family, Ashley takes readers along her journey of self-discovery to the woman she is today.

4. “Animal” by Lisa Taddeo

Belletrist was started by book lovers and best friends Karah Preiss (who lives in New York) and Emma Roberts (who lives in Los Angeles). What started out as a bicoastal book exchange via snail mail has now become a like-minded, online community of avid readers. Their summer book selection “Animal” is a book that you will want to travel with from coast to coast as it explores the repercussions of a male-dominated society where abuse and cruelties go unchecked.

Readers follow protagonist, Joan, from the streets of New York City to the hills outside of Los Angeles as she searches for her friend, Alice, who will help Joan make sense of her past plagued by the exploitations of men. The plan is to figure out a way for Joan to strike back and move forward.

5. “We Play Ourselves” by Jen Silverman

The NYC Book Girl is known for great book recommendations, and she got it right with this summer reading suggestion. “We Play Ourselves” explores the cost of status and fame and what we are willing to sacrifice in the name of success. After a huge scandal tarnishes her reputation, young writer Cass relocates from New York City to Los Angeles; however, her new life proves to be full of drama and a world that goes against her convictions.
