Jack Dorsey steps down, Parag Agrawal to take charge as the new CEO of Twitter
The big decision was announced on Monday. Twitter has a new CEO, after Jack Dorsey, Co-Founder steps down. Jack was the longest-serving CEO in the company’s 15 years plus journey.
Agrawal has been with the company for over a decade. He started his journey with Twitter in October 2011, as an engineer with a focus on ad products. He was the first one to receive the company’s ‘Distinguished Engineer’ title.
Working his way up the ladder, he became the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) in 2017. His biggest projects with the company have been supervising Bluesky — Twitter’s decentralized platform.
What awaits for the new CEO of Twitter — Parag Agrawal
Although he has been with the company for a long time, he has not spent much time in the public eye. There is not much known about the man, though it’s sure to change now. Agrawal is the fourth person to take the leading position at Twitter.
Although just appointed, Agrawal is under criticism owing to his old social media posts, his reign as CTO, etc. Many are questioning his take and future stance towards how the company will handle censorship, etc.
Dorsey was under heavy fire, owing to Twitter’s decision to ban former President Donald Trump’s account in January. This was done due to Trump’s role in inciting the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. Many believe Dorsey should have acted earlier, while some feel the ban sets a precedent for silencing opposing political views.
What lies ahead for Twitter
The times are tough as political views and conflicting opinions are growing and becoming more violent in nature. Social media platforms are under heavy fire from all sides, owing to their policies, control and flow of information, and more.
People are becoming more aware and active towards inciting posts, and rising hatred on social media platforms. Every move made by the CEO will be dissected with keen eyes and snappy fingers.
As it is turbulent times for the platforms, it becomes interesting to see what Agrwal’s stance will be. Rest assured, he is already being critiqued and questioned, and will soon be out in the public for us to see.
