Welcome to the last podcast episode of the year, what a 12 month period we have all had, many ups and downs.

The team thank all of our listeners from across the world and our special guests who provided the show with some great conversations throughout 2021. This will continue for 2022.

We wanted to share some key points for musicians to kick off the new year with a bang, start as you mean to go on no excuses!

Artists & bands key points for 2022:

Website & mailing list:

Creating and building a professional website for your online presence is vital, but even more important is building a dedicated mailing list for all your subscribers…

Your website should include links to your music, bios/team, images, and tour dates, make sure to also include a mailing list to sign up.

Email marketing offers direct access to the inboxes of people who are most likely to engage with your music.

If a fan gives you their email address, it means they want to hear from you, with a message directly to their inbox about your latest release or tour, this is much more likely to reach them than a social media post that can be restricted by a platform’s limited reach.

Develop and build a social media presence:

A good social media marketing strategy is vital today. Developing and maintaining a consistent and engaging presence across social media is important

Keep your profile consistent to make things easier for people searching for you.

There’s a ton of advice out there on how to manage your social channels, and things are constantly changing across every platform daily, weekly, and even hourly!

Get press & blog coverage:

If your music gets featured by music publications, those placements can help build hype and give you the credentials to take your music career forward.

Hiring a professional PR to handle your campaign is generally the best way to get great coverage. But this isn’t always affordable or possible for a new artist with limited resources.

Do-it-yourself PR is an option for artists without a big budget. But it’s important to approach bloggers and journalists in the right way.

Firstly, you’ll need to create an electronic press release. This should contain all the essential info about you, the band, your music and your wider team (attorney, manager, plugger)

Surround yourself with a strong team:

You might prefer to take the lone-wolf approach, but there can be huge benefits to surrounding yourself with a great team of like-minded people.

If you have a team of well-connected individuals who are passionate about your music all working in your interest, it stands to reason that your chances of success will surely increase.

If you can put together a team of friends who’ll help you free of charge, or for a cut of eventual earnings — that’s a great start — make sure you put this in writting to avoid problems down the line!

But sometimes, you’ll need to acquire the services of professionals to help give you the edge in the competitive music market. Whether that’s a PR person, a radio plugger or promoter/booker.

It’s also a good idea to get yourself a great manager, who understands the music industry landscape. Make sure they’re passionate about your music and believe in you as an artist. A manager who’ll go above and beyond for you is worth their weight in gold.

There are so many tools out there now to move your entertainment career forward you can do so much more than you could a few years ago.

The message is to be consistent with your activity, website, social media, meetings & phone calls — do what you say you are going to do.

If you say you're going to call a promoter at 11 am then do it — the only reason you will fail is because of you. So take 2022 by the horns and really create some magic!
