Looking at the current crop of reality TV shows, would you say it is about time to shelve the format, have people had enough of Britain Got Talent, X-Factor, The Voice etc!
Or do we still love the underdog and cheer on our favourite contestant, only to find they have been eliminated, or just plucked from obscurity…. yeah right, or should we vote or not; I just can’t decide, can you?
I think most people are aware of the manipulation of this TV format which has been running for many years now, (too many in my opinion) but we still can’t resist the temptation of watching, with our friends over a beer and moaning about the show that's just human nature!
Why do we moan, well I think there are several reasons’s for this. One could be a lot of people are not eduatced to how the entertainment industry really works!
If you have a good understanding of how the “entertainment’’ industry works, then you have a good head start on most people.
The contestant who was picked from working in Tesco’s, Post Office, Car cleaner etc, and put on a stage to grace millions of people will have the opportunity to capture the audience for a few minutes.
But the fact is very few of these people have worked hard, been professionally trained, worked for little or no money.
If you like not done their apprenticeships, and expect to sign the big label deal because they have arrived, but who really cares!
I can understand when a lot of people feel very frustrated and aggrieved in this situation with their son or daughter who has trained for years in their chosen entertainment area to find there only HOPE is an audition for one of the reality TV shows!
But on the other hand, the person who has put themselves forward for public humiliation or adoration could be on a very naive road, all they wish to do has just become FAMOUS without all the hard work — just to take their 15 minutes of FAME.
In time they will get there just deserves, probably about 12/24 months (if they are lucky) to earn some money and then fade into obscurity and look like who someone who was famous for a while! oh, really haven’t we just had enough of this crap!
I've worked with many artists who have worked extremely hard to get a little way forward, but sometimes it just comes down to the right place at the right time.
All that is left is the reality TV format!
I think we all have different views and thoughts on this area, no one is right or wrong, we all just all have an opinion.
I think the sad point people think the road is paved with gold, only to find the road has dried up and the agent has moved on to the next big thing, well this is the way it is!
If you look back in time to the great Hollywood era of the ’50s, this was a magical time when stars were stars, and that sprinkling of magical dust, you couldn’t see, but you knew it was there with true performers, stars, celebrities were born, nurtured and developed into GLOBAL icons.
I suppose the world moves on, but I do think celebrity status should be for the few, and NOT the masses, just a thought!
