Here’s Why Cable Turned The Election Into A Reality TV Show
Ever since Donald Trump planted himself into the forefront of everyone’s gossip, we’ve been busy discussing one of two things:
- Political Correctness
- Disrespect
First of all, I shouldn’t have to point out that the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States is not the first political candidate to be accused of being disrespectful towards the opposition. In all actuality, this is exactly how our political system was designed to work.
If you don’t like hearing disparaging comments made about other people, then just stop following the elections.
The amount of facetime we’ve had with the candidates up this point is unprecedented.
The truth is that ever since cable cutting started becoming “a thing”, the cable networks have used live events, such as football and game shows, to hold their subscribers hostage.
That’s why it should be no surprise to us that a former reality TV personality could potentially be our next president.
Each and every time that you get offended by Donald Trump’s rhetoric it’s also prolonging the life expectancy of TV channels, like CNN & Fox News, from going the way of the dinosaur.
The media is your biggest enemy in this election
This isn’t the first time that I’ve made huge claims about old media and it’s probably not going to be the last time either.
The closer these industries get to becoming extinct, the less likely they’re going to do the right thing when it comes to reporting things, especially elections.
And even worse, nobody in this election understands what gets your name brought up by the media more than Donald Trump and he has definitely proved that.
I hope they enjoy this last ride because once the season finale airs on November 8, 2016, these news networks will go back to worrying about how badly their subscription numbers are declining just like ESPN is doing right now.
The internet has cut the legs out from underneath television, radio and newspapers as it continues to open it’s doors for freelancers by giving us the ability to do live broadcasting, audio podcasts and blog posts. I’d hate to put it so bluntly but it’s only a matter of time before they all go completely belly up.
