Screenshots from the author’s morning adventure with his wife on Roamingwood Lake.

Even the small and seemingly powerless can stand up to the mighty — especially when protecting something they love.

Alright, we got some bald eagles there. My wife and I are kayaking on Roamingwood Lake in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. We just passed their nest — they have an eaglet. One. You can hear him.

And I almost always see them when I’m on this side of the lake. Just majestic. Just absolutely majestic. Maybe I can get a better view — close the gap — a little closer. Their nest was back the other way. Huge nest. Maybe they’re actually two nests.

And — oh! There they are. I’m not going to be able to — I have my cellphone, so if I had my real camera, this would be a lot better. I can get a lot, but it is what it is. It’s just kind of cool.
