Today is ‘Earth Day’ — Are You Taking Part?

This year’s theme is ‘Planet vs Plastics’

22nd April is the official ‘Earth Day’ when everyone’s supposed to consider their impact on the planet and make changes for the good of our world. It follows Earth Hour, which took place last month, as a time for people to power down and switch out the lights, to help the planet.

2024’s theme for Earth Day is ‘Planet vs Plastics’. It’s a campaign calling for us to reduce our dependency on plastics, especially single use plastics.

The campaign is demanding a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040, calling for widespread awareness about the health risks of plastics, a rapid phase-out of single-use plastics, and they’re demanding an end to fast fashion.

Earth Day started in 1970, as a protest against environmental destruction. Now it tackles a different environmental subject each year, calling for change, environmental commitments by governments, and policies for a healthier planet.

My husband and I routinely consider the environmental impacts of everything we do. Every day is ‘Earth Day’ in our household. We’re always alert to the environmental impact of our actions.
