A Game of Oil & Gas

Part one: The 100 Evils of Climate Change

This is the first part in a series of several articles. Each part highlights one specific area responsible for climate change.

In July 2017 The Guardian published a very specific list of 100 companies responsible for 71% of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in THE ENTIRE WORLD.

I mean, 100 companies? WTF!?

This revelation came in whistling like a nuclear bomb, no-one had really pictured it like this before. Could a measly 100 companies truly be responsible for such a clear majority of our GHG-emissions?

A list of the top ten offenders (source)

I remember talking about this with all my friends and colleagues: reporters, biologists, environmentalists. Everyone was stoked:

– Finally we know how to stop our emissions! All we have to do is target those 100 companies. Right?

And then.. Nothing happened.

As you may already be aware of, 2019 is on track to become The Year (with a capital T) that we (as a species) emitted more greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere than ever done before - and 2018 had already broken all previous records.
