Have you ever wondered from where the games that most of you play today come? What all processes are involved in developing a game? What all key points the game developers keep under consideration while bringing a game for you?

Well, the answer to these sets of questions is discussed in this article!

Processes involved in game developing

There are basically four processes which are involved in game developing, these are:-

  • Concept developing
  • Pre-Production
  • Production
  • Post-Production/Launch

Concept developing

The foremost step in game developing is the gaming concept, which is a simple idea about what game is to be about? How the gaming characters will look like? And what will be the storyline of the game? For example, if you come across an idea to have a racing game, then you can think further about it based upon your interest in game developing.

Pre-production

The next face that comes into the picture is the pre-production, in which we engage a team of designers, programmers, artists, producers, scriptwriters, and the developers. After teaming up, each team member is assigned a duty based upon his profile and we prepare the strategic plan to be followed to get the desired results.

Production

After finalizing the game’s overall blueprint, we enter the production phase. In this phase, all the designers, producers, artists, programmers and game developers coordinate among themselves to bring the game into the final form. While the game designers, emphasizes over-designing the gaming characters, the programmers focus over the coding part. Further, AI programmers specifically define how the gaming characters will act in a particular situation.

Post-production/Launch

This is the final stage of game development. In this phase, the Alpha version of the game is created and sent to Game Testing Department (GTD), here the game is tested to find out all the bugs and flaws in the game, which are required to be sorted out. After testing the Alpha version of the game and fixing all the issues, the beta version is sent it again to the Game Testing Department (GTD) where the game is tested extensively, to find out all the major and the minor flaws in the gaming and ensure that the game is perfect in all terms. Once all these bugs are fixed, the final version of the game is sent for the final launch into the market.

What people are saying about the processes involved in the production of games?

“You can make an amazing game, but you can’t make a success. Your players make success.”

- Irma Jele, co-founder of Bossa Studios

“Let’s optimize for player experience rather than what we think will make more money.”

- Ron Carmel, the independent developer, and investor

“It should be an experience, that is touching. What I strive for is to make the person playing the game the director.”

- Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s biggest developer

Summary

Therefore, the success of the game is mainly dependent upon how the processes of concept development, pre-production, production, and post-production have been carried out. Based on these four processes the game finally becomes live for the core players.
