The Equator Stories — Kenny Rivaldi
Hi, I’m Kenny, your Medium pal.
Judging by my name, I could be easily mistaken as a woman — At least that is what I have experienced every time I ordered GoJek.
Since I was a kid, I have always loved writing, I have these old-full journals that I dearly love, which had accompanied me through the years. Back then, writing was all about expressing how I feel, but later, I realized it is a powerful tool to share my ideas.
I have been blogging since 2012, and have always been dreaming to have a community where writers could share their ideas, and grow together in a respectful community.
Thanks to Medium, a few years later, I have found the perfect platform to put that idea into something wonderful. That one idea gave birth to The Equator — An Indonesian writer community to be a home for your writings.
Although writing is not my main job, it is still something that holds value within myself and something that shaped me into the person I am today.
As for now, I’m mostly dealing with exporting coffee beans from here to there, and writing helped me a lot to make a meaningful connection with my clients, I learned how to communicate better, and gave me the skill to pour my thoughts into words effectively.
Talking about coffee, Gosh I love coffee very much, a cold iced americano literally could cheer me up — I would do anything to have it right now. When I was in college, I would jump from one coffee shop to another, and just went chilling with my own thoughts.
My love for coffee didn’t stop there, I got a job as Barista in Starbucks so I could learn more about it, it was a wonderful experience, I’ve met lots of great people who had the same feeling for coffee with me.
How about you? Do you love coffee as much as I do?
I also have a cat and a girlfriend — Whom I dearly love. For me, she feels like a reminder that there are still good things in this world, and it’s worth fighting for. I couldn’t deny that her existence shaped me into a better person, and I’m truly proud of everything that she had achieved in this world.
I would consider myself lucky, to know her in my life, to have someone who believes in me — Even when sometimes I couldn't do that. This kind of feeling made me believed that the world is not that cruel after all. So, thank you, Eva, for always investing your kindness within me.
I’m still trying my best to put Medium as part of my priorities, bringing a few refreshing changes to this community, so The Equator can always be the right home for you and for your writing.
As for now, we have more than a hundred writers on the team, and I would love to get to know each one of you personally — After all, that is the bond that glued this community together.
