The Era of the Social Medium
In the modern era of media, most people do not rely on the traditional mediums to receive their daily news. Instead, most people will look at social media to catch up on the news they are interested in. With the increase development of technology and rapid growth of social media, traditional news mediums have a lot of competition to attract consumers. This means a lot of companies will write articles online and link them into tweets.
An example of this is a few months back when Kylie Jenner was pregnant, everyone found out via social media. There were many accounts that were posting photos and writing about everything she did such as releasing baby photos.
You can even find Forbes reporting on conferences that aim to help the next generation of female entrepreneurs.
Since Twitter does have a character count limit, it’s convenient to receive news from there because you can read a short summary and have a link attached as well to read the full article if you are interested. That is the case when it comes this tweet from the Huffington Post about different women causing the downfall of Trump, as opposed to Russia.
Another way people like to receive their news is through YouTube. There is nothing like having a video to watch to tell you the news. Since the news stations only cast at certain times, people will look elsewhere such as YouTube. There are also channels that are exclusively on YouTube that report on news as well. HollywoodLife is a channel that reports on celebrity news. This video is a commentary on the drama surrounding the cheating scandal involving Boston Cavalier’s Tristan Thompson and his pregnant girlfriend Khloe Kardashian.
Social media has made access to news easier than before. Being able to link articles to summaries on Twitter, to reposting or creating original commentating on YouTube has caused the traditional mediums of new sources to be used less frequently. Next time you view news on an electronic platform, remember that this is the first time in history that this has been possible.
