The Ukrainian forces have launched a series of strategic strikes on railway infrastructure deep within Russian territory. Local media reports indicate that on the night of May 2, 2024, kamikaze drones targeted traction substations and transformers along railway tracks in the Oryol and Kursk regions of Russia. This multi-stage, coordinated attack marks a significant shift in Ukraine’s approach to countering Russian aggression and highlights the growing sophistication of their military capabilities. The strikes, which occurred around 23:30 local time, initially targeted traction substations near the Ponyri and Sloboda railway stations. Approximately 15 minutes later, a second wave of drones struck further north along the Zmeevka-Glazunovka line. These meticulously planned and executed attacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces aimed to disrupt Russia’s ability to transport military supplies to the front lines.
