How To Make Yourself Sparkly And Iridescent

Welcome to Make Your Face, a makeup tutorial series with a simple mission: makeup by you (me) for your (my) own entertainment, Establishment-style.

First up: a shout-out to beautiful Saint Patrick’s Day Snake Women Aurora and Kaylan:

snakey

This week I intended to do a timely look, something relevant to pop culture or political goings-on. But then I spilled a bag of black glitter all over my bathroom and that went out the window.

For your information, black glitter sprinkled onto black nail polish looks AMAZING. However, it turns to gross lumpy tar the instant you put a layer of top coat over it. If you cleverly circumvent this undesirable circumstance by sprinkling more glitter over the top coat, your nails will look AMAZING again, but unfortunately the glitter is dangerously scratchy and you will inadvertently rip threads out of your clothing and come alarmingly close to abrading your left cornea while wearing it.

In other news, it’s convenient to have a chemical-grade cleaning glove around if you want to remove nail polish from one hand while preserving the manicure of the other. “Gunmetal” colored glitter is less temperamental than black.

Eyebrows!

2

Iridescent eyeshadows typically perform best when you apply them with a fingertip, I find. There are some pretty baller kitchen-created duochrome shadows on Etsy!

3

When you’re in a hurry to catch good lighting, sometimes you skip eyeliner and mascara before applying false lashes.

4

NYX Slide On pencil is the best white eyeliner I’ve ever tried.

5

Blush!

6

We are living in a time of shiny-faced strobing, which is WONDERFUL because trying to keep your skin matte is hell.

7

I am not paid to shill NYX products, unfortunately. They’re just . . . so cheap! And GOOD!

Highlighter can go on your cheekbones. It can go on your nose! It can go on your browbones and your jaw and wherever the hell you want to put it. It’s your world.

LOOK AT THIS SHINY RIBBON!!!

9

Eyelash glue can stick ribbon to your face.

10

See?

11

Will black lipstick make a better base for black glitter than black nail polish? We’re about to find out.

12

✨soooooooo sparklyyyyy ✨

13

RACE FOR THAT SUNSHINE WHILE IT’S STILL THERE, GIRL! GO, GO!!

14

And with that selfie, your black glitter is NOT wasted, ha!
