Editor’s note: On February 22, 2018, in the wake of mounting pressure after the Parkland mass shooting, Enterprise, Alamo, and National dropped their partnership with the NRA. Best Western and Wyndham Hotels have cut ties as well, as has the First National Bank of Omaha, which has stopped issuing an NRA-branded Visa card.

Other companies, including MetLife, Hertz, and Hotel Planner, remain in partnership with the NRA. The movement to pressure companies to end their relationship with the association is still active with the hashtag #BoycottNRA.

Whenever a mass shooting happens, Americans are left feeling helpless. What can the average citizen do to stop gun violence when politicians can’t summon the political willpower to even agree that gun control reform needs to happen?

The answer? Plenty — starting with exercising the power of the purse.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) lists discounts from more than 485 businesses as a benefit of membership in the organization. Card-carrying NRA members looking for services ranging from graphic design to magic shows, and pretty much everything in between, can get a 10–25% reduction in cost.
