The aim of our journal is to equip students to engage with primary research in their field. We accomplish this by publishing engaging and easy-to-read articles covering recent discoveries and experimental methods in biological research.

This journal is written and edited by members of Tri-Beta to benefit their peers (and to get some practice in scientific writing). We publish three kinds of articles: EZ summaries, Method of the Month features, and Professor Features.

Here’s what they are:

EZ Summaries:

Short articles summarizing the results and conclusions of recent research papers in biology.

At the top of the summary, there is a link to the original research article. In order to access the article, you will need to either be on the Grove City College wi-fi, the Library VPN, or have some other form of journal access.

The body of each report summarizes the major results from the paper and covers some of the methods used to find those results.

Links to both significant data in the paper and helpful additional resources will be included as hyperlinks in the report text. To protect the copyrighted information in each paper, we are unable to put data directly in our reports.

If you finish the summary and want to learn more, try reading the paper yourself!

Method of the Month:

Short articles describing an experimental technique used in biological research.

Each month we pick an experimental method used in bio research and give the basics of how it works in a bite size feature. We also include a diagram summarizing the method if you prefer pictures.

Disclaimer: These diagrams are made by the writers of the journal, and we are science majors, not artists…so go easy on us.

Professor Features:

Highlights written by GCC professors about research they’ve been following.

These articles cover a research topic in biology that one of our amazing professors has been following recently. In them, the professor provides background on why the topic interests them, what the research covers, and some further reading for those interested.
