How to Get Off the Merry-Go-Round

Do you ever feel like you are in a merry-go-round? Whatever you do, you find yourself sucked into the same cycle all over again? And you start to just give up and settle for yourself and for the same situation because this is how things have always been?

I’d like to remind you today that there is a way to stop the merry-go-round cycle. That you are stronger than you think you are because you are capable of rising above your situation.

I have realized that the first thing to do is to want to get out. It has to start from a yearning that we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. We have to want more than this because we deserve better than this. If we don’t want out of the cycle in the first place, then nothing or no one can help us. We will just remain going around in the circle, as we are.

Second, we need to know the reason why we are stuck. What lead us here in the first place? Why do we find ourselves attached to the same people? Why do we feel so comfortable here? It is quite often how we were raised when we were children, or how we perceived our world to be, or how we think ourselves deserved to be loved.

Once we find the exact reason, and this will take a long time, we need to have peace with it. We need to forgive people who were part of the reason; and we need to forgive ourselves, most especially, because it wasn’t our fault.

Third, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. To be human beings. To feel the pain. To cry and even get angry. We accept support from our family and friends. To just be in the moment and be one with it. This is life experience we need to go through right now. We need to wait patiently believing that this too shall pass, because it will.

Lastly, we begin. We begin a new chapter of our lives. We begin to become the person who exactly we were meant to be. A person who is in tune of his own strength. A person who can rise above any situation. A person who is whole and alive.

Yet, if ever we find ourselves going back to the circle again — because it is deeper than we think it is — it’s okay. I can attest to this. We just need to go back to the first step again — to the wanting. Never be scared to begin again, for as long as you are breathing, you have time.
