Sergio Ramirez was diagnosed with with lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013 and was under treatment for three years, however his cancer has come back. A biopsy revealed that 82 percent of the cells in his bone marrow were leukemic cells.

For the past 41 years, City of Hope has hosted the annual meeting for survivors of a bone marrow transplant such as Ramirez. Bringing 4,000 survivors, donors and family members from around the world, as well as doctors, the nurses and staff, the event will be very moving.

Ramirez needs a bone marrow transplant to be able to stay without cancer, and a few weeks later, he received it. He often stops to think of the donor who, unrelated to him, had donated voluntarily to save the life of a person he had never met.
