Emmanuel Ayala Frutos, a Dreamer and DACA recipient, is currently facing a possible deportation after ICE arrested him for pleading guilty for two misdemeanors, Univision Noticias reports.

Frutos fell onto ICE’s raider after pleading guilty for pulling out a pocketknife and pointing it toward a couple of individuals who verbally attacked him with insults, which includes them telling Frutos “to go back to his country.”

Frutos’ family and his lawyer, Tim Warden-Hertz, filed a petition on Thursday asking ICE to release Frutos for medical and humanitarian reasons. The family fears he is not receiving the proper medication for his bipolar disorder and has not been provided a wheel chair for his injured legs. ICE authorities reassured Univision Noticias that Frutos has been given the proper treatment, but it is unknown whether he will be released.

Alex Galvez, a Los Angeles-based lawyer, further emphasizes how undocumented immigrants should be wary of minor offences they have made (i.e. DUIs, domestic violence, sexual abuse of children, possession of drugs or firearms, etc.) because it can be the sole reason for their deportation.
