Daniela Vargas, a 22-year-old Argentine “Dreamer” who was in the process of renewing her permit to stay in the United States legally, was arrested Wednesday by immigration agents after attending a press conference.

In the conference, Vargas urged President Donald Trump to protect people who are part of the DACA program. Two Democratic senators demanded answers.

Although Vargas’ most recent status in the DACA program expired, she submitted the application for renewal in mid-February. A federal immigration judge will now “decide whether or not she is eligible for immigration assistance,” according to the article. Thomas Byrd, an ICE spokesman, said he could not clarify whether the agents knew that Vargas had renewed her application or if her case means that other immigrants with pending applications are at risk of being detained.
