General Vivek Murthy, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2014, has been asked to resign by the Trump administration as they move to appoint new leaders.

India West reports that Murthy’s deputy, Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, will serve as surgeon general and leader of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps until a replacement is confirmed.

Murthy took to Facebook to comment on the past two years, “For the grandson of a poor farmer from India to be asked by the president to look out for the health of an entire nation was a humbling and uniquely American story.”
