Synagogue in Pasadena abstain from posting political banner
News from Jewish Journal
As Jewish groups across the country mobilize against President Trump’s immigration ban, one synagogue in Pasadena refuses to hang a banner although it still supports its members of the social justice committee.
Many of the board members who voted against the banner believe that by placing a sign along side the building it could potentially jeopardize the synagogue’s security and that the statement did not necessarily reflect all of its members.
Peter Dreier, who is a member of the synagogue as well as the social justice committee, was shocked about the refusal of the banner and believes that the temple is running like a corporation, not a democracy.
